1. TB5 on Win7 x64 SP1 with Xonar DX re-test notes:
– Uninstalled, rebooted, ran ccleaner+driversweeper, rebooted again.
– Ran TB5 installer, left Normal selected, checked Driver preinstall + Wizard installation option.
– Selected “Next >”, then Install. Got “extracting files…” popup, then license agreement popup.
– Chose accept + ok. Got “Installing UNixonar Audio Driver…” popup, unregistered driver popup appeared and disappeared after a split-second… Installing driver status bar filled up slowly over the course of ~4min, but nothing happened when the bar reached full.
– Opened windows device manager and noticed that it showed the driver as installed and working properly. It also showed the driver as being “not digitally signed”.
– Continued waiting on the installer (full status bar popup was still showing) until ~10 min since bar appeared (~6.5 min after it had reached full), at which point “Please plug-in UNi Xonar Audio device!” Retry/Cancel popup appeared.
– Selected Retry and waited another ~5 min. Got Retry/Cancel popup again.
– Selected Cancel this time, got a larger “Please plug-in UNi Xonar Audio device!” popup with only a Finish button.
– Selected Finish. Got “Completing the ASUS XONAR Unified Drivers Setup Wizard” popup, with Finish button and 3 checkboxes for Xonar models that I don’t have.
– Selected Finish. At this point I believe the driver was installed correctly, but because no control panel software (Asus or C-Media) got installed, I couldn’t switch on the SPDIF output to test it (my speakers are connected via optical SPDIF).
– Ran the TB5 installer again, chose C-Media Panel (GX enabled) and Enable Stereo upmix. Left Driver preinstall unchecked.
– Selected “Next >”, then Install. Got “extracting files…” popup and a minimized command prompt window, then “Driver is installing. This will take no more than 60 seconds. Please wait…”
– 5 minutes later (literally – so much for the will-complete-in-60-seconds message!) I got the “Completing the ASUS XONAR Unified Drivers Setup Wizard” popup, with Finish button and 3 checkboxes for Xonar models that I don’t have again.
– Selected Finish. Still didn’t see a C-Media or Asus control panel in the system tray, start menu, or windows control panel.
– Selected start menu -> restart. Noticed that windows “Shutting down…” screen stayed up for over 5 minutes.
– Did a hard reset. Noticed that there was still no Asus/C-Media control panel installed.
– Ran the regular 1.30 installer with C-Media Panel (GX enabled), Silent install, and stereo upmixing enabled. Installer finished in around 15 seconds and did not prompt me to reboot.
– Selected Finish. C-Media control panel had appeared in the system tray. Switched to Dolby Digital Live mode and everything worked fine.

Conclusions:
– TB5 seems able to install the driver successfully, but not the control panel software (if you run with preinstall checked, then run again with it unchecked). It also seems to go into a loop thinking that the Xonar is not connected, until you hit Cancel.
– The result of installing just TB5 is unusable for me because I need either the Asus or C-media control panel to be able to switch on the Xonar’s SPDIF output.
– Another result of installing TB5 is that it also caused Windows 7 x64 SP1 to hang while shutting down to restart, which is pretty bad because it necessitated a hard reset.
– After a reboot, the regular 1.30 installer was able to install the C-media control panel without harming the TB5 driver installation. This results in a fully-usable state with the TB5 driver and regular 1.30 control panel(s). However, I had to go through most of the above pain to achieve this state.
– At a minimum it would be nice to have the driver install complete without going into the Retry/Cancel loop, *and* not hanging Windows shutdown when rebooting.

Things I could have tried but didn’t:
– Install TB5 with driver preinstall checked, then regular 1.30 (both without rebooting).
– Install TB5 with driver preinstall checked, then reboot, then install TB5 with drive preinstall unchecked.

1. Thank you for your detailed feedback. From what you are saying, I think my installer works but the original installer doesn’t, meaning that only the actual audio driver files are installed. Will try to improve my installer without having to rely on the original asus one for the other components.

In case the driver doesn’t install the messages will show still that it successfully installed so sorry for that misleading message.

1. Sounds good. Let me know if there’s anything else you want me to test at some point. For now I’m just happy I got something that works without having to hit F8 every time I reboot 🙂

2. With BitDefender 2011 it asks me whether or not to allow the files during installation. So, maybe your anti-virus program could be blocking the installer?

Just a thought…

3. Greetings,CarvedIns! I was wondering if the new test build is only for those with installation problems…

4. 1.Download the Realtek driver for windows 7
http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=5513&file=15&evp=9b4a172533b10c552baab558f5d72a2a
-extract it and remove all “inf” files from vista and vista64 folders
-download mod inf files
http://hotfile.com/dl/108109138/fd09871/realtek.rar.html
-copy this mod files : HDARt—->Vista folder
HDXRt—->Vista 64 folder
-Install This Realtek driver and restart

2.Download X-fi mb software

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/asus/misc/utils/SB_XFi_V10_R19_XpVistaWin7.zip

-extract it and go to SB_XFi_V10_R19_XpVistaWin7\Audio\Setup and remove “support.cab” from folder
-Download this mod support.cab file and copy it to that folder (SB_XFi_V10_R19_XpVistaWin7\Audio\Setup)

http://hotfile.com/dl/108110231/b3f5944/Support.cab.html

-Install X-fi mb software and restart

3.Disable Antivirus and download activation for x-fi mb software
http://hotfile.com/dl/108110505/0cc5f9e/Activation.rar.html

-Run DDL_DTS_Activator.exe and then run “RUN.bat” file

4.Go to registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MMDevices\Audio\Render

and find folder key with Speakers(Realtek HDA…)

Export their FXProperties to desktop and name it CTFX

Then find two folder key for Speakers(Asus Xonar Device) and take premission on them…then create new key folder and name it FXProperties

Right click and copy key for first folder

go to desktop and open (edit) the CTFX reg file

Paste it in like on picture, save, close and run it.

Then go back and copy key for second folder and paste it in CTFX reg file, save and run it.

Set Asus Xonar for deafult device and restart…that is it..

P.S Sorry for my bad english 🙂

1. In step 4, i don’t have an entry for Realtek HDA Speakers… what i’m doing wrong?

2. Alexa, please upload these modded files somewhere besides hotfile.

Hotfile is terrible .It’s supposd to be 30 minute wait between downloads for free. After downloading the first file there I’ve been waiting an hour and it still won’t let me download again.

thanks

3. I finally managed to get the needed files downloaded but, now I don’t see an entry for Realtek HDA Speakers…….same as fidoboy.

Also when installing the modded realtek says it’s unsigned driver. After installing in device manager it just lists standard Microsoft High definition Audio Device..

1. Sorry i just see this message for post were is link and tutorial “Your comment is awaiting moderation.”

5. Sorry, i’m impatient, can’t understand why you can write comments here and not the instructions… xD

1. They can’t working on xp ’cause xp doesn’t support fx effects! This only work on windows 7.

6. Hmm. How to put it. I know that the driver support at Asus didn’t turn out as I’d hoped and expected, but I’d rather eat my Xonar card first than run it on Creative software. You can never step into the same river twice.

7. Just want to say big thanks for Unified driver, my dg now works as it should.

Do I uninstall Unified before I adding the Realtek and X-fi stuff?

1. Glad I could help you out.

I didn tryied the mod but I am sure you don’t need uninstall Unified/Xonar software before adding Realtek/X-Fi drivers.

8. Big thanx for developing these drivers which are excellent.

Had no trouble installing 1.30 on Windows 7 32bit for use with a Xonar D2.

I have also been using them with an Auzentech Meridian 7.1 on XP as well.

Both systems do exactly what I want them to do 🙂

Top Effort.

1. Have to ask you something did you installed the drivers with C-Media Panel for Meridian 7.1? Does it let you access the Asus Xonar Audio center (from start)?

9. Hello there
I have yet another question, for my “wonderful” Asus Xonar D2/PM, 7.1 channel sound card.
My input the Xonar has a noise problem when i open a game and is on a skype or teamspeak at the same time. The sound for my dear friends delicate years, transforms into what they say sounds like a motorbike show from another dimension. Its acceptable when i dont have any mic boost clicked on. Then noone can hear me and thats not good for my gentle voice, when i have to yell all day. I have a mic from sony for 93.45 dollers so it not that one and have tryed with many mics. ive heard many other people haveing this problem but have not yet found any solution. the same problem happens when running with the unified sound drivers. the sound tiggering moterbike show is also a littel bit in my out channel when i listen to some sound. Can anyone help me?

1. sure i will, im useing speakers and headphones with a sound switch but have tried to connect direktly to the sound card.
Forgot to mention that its ovnly when im playing a game that the sound starts cranking up.

10. Alexa,I followed the whole instructions but it says that “the audio device supported by this device is not detected.I am using windows 7,xonar DX,unified xonar v1.30 and also realtek v2.58 driver(alc888)

11. i have same issue like arsw92 ,,the audio device supported by this device is not detected” when i want to open the creative control panel

12. @ ars92 and nunu@02.pl the modded realtek file is 2.57 ver. the can’t work with 2.58!

I will upload creative effects (reg files) later but don’t uninstall realtek modded file and x-fi software!

1. alright, this means i’ve still got hope of installing this hack!can’t wait to try out CMSS 3D!! 🙂

2. i suppose that i’ve not it working cause i’ve installed 2.58 version. Where can i download 2.57? i’ll wait for creative ffectes reg files to test it. Right now i’m also gettin the ‘device not detected’ error when trying to open creative control panel…

1. Creative filters

13. Yes, i’ve executed the DDL_DTS_Activator.exe and then the BAT file. But i can’t find the Realtek speakers entry in the registry (may be because i’ve installed 2.58 version? must i uninstall it and then install 2.57? where can i download 2.57 ver?

regards,

14. I’d really appreciate it if you could add support for the “Array Microphone” option from the U1 drivers for other Xonar cards. I have a microphone that benefits from this option being enabled (not the one that comes with the U1, although I have that one as well) and I’d love being able to use the option on my Desktop PC, as it tremendously lowers the pickup of outside noise.

Thanks in advance!

1. Didn;t knew for what was the Array Microphone but wanted to find out.. I’ll check this out and see if I can enable it. Can you tell me if this can work with any microphone or only with special ones?

15. hi
every time i go to the mixer tab in de cmedia panel it crashes: http://666kb.com/i/brip5x78a7blbjoom.png

i’m using the uni xonar 1.30 drivers (tried the 1.30 TB5 too).
installed with cmedia panel without gx, with stereo upmix, disabled silent install (but saw no errors)

any advices?

1. Didn’t encounter this before. I think the problem might be an your side. Are you having Win7 SP1?
Have you tried a complete uninstall, using driver sweeper like in the faq guide? Does this happen with 1.26 drivers?

In the worst case if you don’t manage to solve the problem then you could use the mixer options from the Asus Audio Center instead.

1. ok i removed the driver and reinstalled a third time. it works now. but the stereo upmix function (i’ve checked during install) is not working. in fact that did not work for me the last 2 driver versions 😦

1. Maybe you forgot to select sound channels: 2, speaker config: 7.1 (8), as this is how stereo upmix worked on Win7/Vista with any Xonar driver.
LE: At least this is how it has worked for me the past 1-2 years on Win7.

1. i’m pretty sure stereo upmix worked in previous driver versions when selecting 6 channel input and 5.1 output (without any further settings). that’s pretty much what i initially wanted – since i really don’t want to switch the channel input every time i play games or listen to mp3s. especially problematic when listening to mp3s WHILE playing 😉

1. I know what you are saying, but for me it doesn’t work even with stereo upmix enabled v1.10 the way you described.
Bu there is a chance that it might be a problem on my side.

Maybe with the previous driver you enabled audio options like Dolby Pro Logic ? Please uninstall the latest driver, and try an older version that you know it worked, to confirm or deny that it previously worked without any other settings.

16. Hello… I love your driver, works great for my Xonar STX… however I was wondering, did something change with the ASIO? When I use my primary sound card driver in foobar, and switch to ASIO, i don’t hear a difference anymore… is this because everything is using ASIO now? Thanks a lot!

17. I also posted on the Asus site because there updated drivers also do this. the Original drivers Go to Sleep.

Any updated driver OR even Uni drivers refuse to enter Sleep state on Win7. At any time i can fall back to the Original driver disk , install drivers and win7 WILL enter sleep state. None of the Updated drivers i have tried will sleep. they all return the same Problem, Using a CMD prompt(right click- Run as Admin)and type

powercfg -ENERGY

In the report it states….
System Availability Requests:System Required Request
The device or driver has made a request to prevent the system from automatically entering sleep.Requesting Driver Instance PCI\VEN_13F6&DEV_8788&SUBSYS_82691043&REV_00\4&2d87d632&0&10F0
Requesting Driver Device ASUS Xonar D2 Audio Device
I do not get this with the original drivers but they crash.

Just a heads Up… hope to get this sorted…

1. Sleep as normal standby or hibernate ( both windows options) or Standby – S3 (hardware, bios option) ?

I don’t noticed this problem on Win7, maybe someone else that uses Win7 as primary can check this out, but maybe your Win7 installation is “corrupted” or there is a conflict with other drivers on your system.

18. I’ve been using 1.25 drivers for several months without any issues. However, after installing any new version (including latest 1.30) I’ve been experiencing a high level of background static noise when no audio is playing. I’m using Xonar Essence ST on Windows 7 32bit. Any suggestions?

19. My experience is similar to hunterz0’s.

Was trying for 3 hours until I managed to get the “Please plug-in UNi Xonar Audio device!” Retry/Cancel popup and I followed hunterz0’s sequence to success.

In the hours of trying i notice that BOTH regular 1.30 installer AND TB5 can cause the long shutting down.

Also tried going back to 1.28 but see the same problem – seemingly endless installation.
Goes on so long that I force close it but when i restart the driver is installed with no control panel.

I’m guessing its the same with the 1.30 installers, the pattern endless install then restart to have drivers only. Didn’t make sure as for the 1.30, after the endless install, I rebooted to safe mode to clean off the drivers to retry.

Hope the installation will improve in the next version.

1. I’m sorry for this.

Except for the fact that this problem might be caused clients side*, the original asus driver installer (which my drivers still use) is crap.
* Don’t get me wrong but windows does rot over time and is high influenced by the stuff you install on it, not counting malware and other viruses.
I recently had to reinstall my WinXP X64 because it was causing different small problems, and nothing I tried fixed . This was using my ~10 years of expertise in computers.

20. On step 2 of the mod files, the x-fi set up, I get a error about not detecting my product, I was sure I following right, not sure what’s going on?

21. Driver install hangs at a blank command prompt. Saying it will be completed in 60 seconds…

1. Thats a “stationary” message. But you seem to have a problem, please uncheck silent install option to see what error you get.
You also might want to try the 1.30 test build 5.

1. Please plug-in UNi Xonar Audio device!

The thing is, I went into device manager like it has been suggested and searched for new hardware changes, but that stays at “Scanning Plug and Play compliant hardware”

LE as in, it doesn’t do anything, it just stays there.

1. I did it with the test build, and as the above post by Zero said, I then did the official release one on top of it, that seemed to work.

22. I don’t know if this will help anyone else or if it was just coincidence for myself, but for quite a while now I’ve been having the same installation problems, able to get them to install in a process very similar to hunterz, or installing them through safe mode. However I noticed a recent update to DriverSweeper that I downloaded, and for the heck of it I did a complete uninstall of the uni drivers then a sweep with the new version, and upon running the 1.30 install, it finally worked right off the bat. I was considering the idea that maybe the previous version of Driver Sweeper had something to do with at least some of the installation issues, one that this new version fixed. In any case maybe it’d be worth a try for those having issues.

1. Thanks for sharing this. Its possible that might be some remaining files that in some cases are not deleted when running (UNi) Xonar uninstaller, and previous versions of driversweeper didn’t either. If this is the case I can add some delete routines before the driver is installed. Hope others can confirm what you are saying.

1. Just an update, I decided to try the whole process a second time to see if the first time was an abberation or not. Uninstalled, wiped with DriverSweeper, and this time I installed with C-Media, GX enabled, 5.1 upmix (first time around I did Xonar Audio Center, 5.1 upmix), and again the install worked the first time. Also for the record since I failed to mention it the first time, I’m running a Xonar DS on Win 7 64bit.

23. Hello,

The Line-In volume is very low on the Xonar DX compared to other sound cards such as the Audigy. Is it possible to raise the gain ?

thanks

24. Dude you just saved my Onkyo 805 sounding really good through spdif before it clipped like crazy.

/ hat off

p.s i dont understand what is “5.1 stereo upmix” i assume it encodes to 5.1 on the fly but how, changing to 6ch output on digital?

1. Thats great:)

It takes stereo sounds (like mp3s) upmixes them to 5.1 , meaning instead of hearing these type of sounds on 2 speakers + subwoofer(of 5.1) you will hear them on all 5.

25. @carvedinside whats the disadvantages of using stereo upmixing on a 5.1 setup especially for games?

1. There shouldn’t be any, only if somehow by “mistake” the sounds for front speakers get passed on to the rear, just like 2.0 sounds are.

One thing that is more possible is if you play a 2.0 game, your positioning will be a little mixed by center and rear speakers (which should play any sounds at all in this case).
